North Star is operated by Chanakya Ibram, a sole proprietor based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, doing business as "North Star." For privacy-related questions, contact us at hello@findnorthstar.io.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use our career-clarity platform. It is governed by the laws of India, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

2. What North Star does

North Star is a career-clarity platform designed for fresh graduates in India. Users take a trait-based assessment, receive a personalized profile, are matched to live job openings ranked by fit, and receive role-specific preparation guidance.

3. What data we collect

3.1 Information you provide directly

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Account credentials (username and password)
  • Career assessment / quiz responses
  • Job preferences (location, work type, priorities)

3.2 Information collected automatically

  • Log and usage data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, activity timestamps)
  • Device data (operating system, screen size)
  • Analytics data via PostHog to understand how the service is used

We do not collect precise geolocation data, and we do not collect sensitive personal data as defined under the DPDP Act (for example, financial account details, health records, or biometric information).

4. How we use your data

We use your personal data only for the following purposes:

  • To provide the service: generate your trait profile, match you to relevant jobs, and show role-specific preparation guidance
  • To operate, secure, and improve the platform
  • To respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • To send administrative and account-related emails (for example, password resets or important service updates)
  • To comply with legal obligations
  • To measure the effectiveness of campaigns and outreach

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for in-app advertising.

5. AI and automated processing

North Star uses large language models (AI) to analyze and categorize job listings and to help match users to roles based on their trait profiles. These matches are recommendations only. AI does not make legally significant automated decisions about you. You remain free to pursue or ignore any job match or suggestion.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with the following categories of service providers (processors), strictly to operate the service and under appropriate data-processing terms:

  • Cloud hosting and database providers
  • Analytics providers
  • Authentication services
  • Third-party job-listings data providers

We do not sell personal data. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

7. Payments, social login, and user content

North Star is currently a free service. We do not process payments. We do not offer social login; accounts are created with email and password only. We do not host user-generated content such as public posts or comments.

8. Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as you maintain an active account. If you delete your account, we remove your data, including quiz responses, preferences, match results, and account information, subject to any legal obligations that require us to retain certain records.

9. Your rights under the DPDP Act

As a data principal under Indian law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your personal data and your account
  • Grievance redressal

You can exercise these rights by using the "Delete my account and data" feature in your dashboard, or by emailing us at hello@findnorthstar.io.

10. Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data, including:

  • Row-level access controls in the database
  • Hashed passwords (never stored in plain text)
  • HTTPS / TLS encryption for data in transit

No system is completely secure. If you become aware of a security issue, please contact us immediately at hello@findnorthstar.io.

11. Children

North Star is not directed at children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
